There’s something about pulling a sample of aging whiskey from an oak barrel with a real handmade copper whiskey thief that a plastic pipette just can’t replace.

These whiskey thieves are handmade by us at PhilBilly Moonshine from 100% copper. They’re built as functional tools for home distillers, whiskey makers, and anyone aging their own spirits—and they look pretty damn good hanging next to a copper still, too.

Simple One-Handed Operation

Using a whiskey thief couldn’t be much easier.

Lower the thief into your barrel or container and allow it to fill with your spirit. Place your thumb over the control hole to hold the sample inside, lift the thief out, position it over your tasting glass, and release your thumb to dispense your sample.

That gives you an easy way to taste your spirit throughout the aging process without pouring out or disturbing the entire barrel.

Each thief also incorporates a distinctive copper knuckle guard/handle, giving you a secure place to grip the tool while sampling.

We make our copper whiskey thieves in two sizes: Small and Large.

The Small Copper Whiskey Thief is our more compact option and an excellent companion for smaller home-aging barrels, jars, and everyday sampling.

The Large Copper Whiskey Thief provides additional size and capacity for customers who prefer a larger sampling tool or are working with larger barrels and containers.
