If you are building a keg still and want to add a thumper without welding extra ports into your keg, the PhilBilly Moonshine Copper Downcomer is the exact tool you need. This custom-engineered component allows you to turn a standard 5-gallon or 7.5-gallon keg into a functional thumper jar using only the existing 2-inch tri-clamp opening.
Ingenious “Pipe-within-a-Pipe” Design
The secret to this downcomer is the concentric flow system. We’ve engineered a 1-inch copper pipe to run directly through the center of a 2-inch copper pipe.
-
The Intake: Vapor travels down the center 1-inch pipe to the bottom of the keg, ensuring it bubbles through your liquid for maximum flavor infusion and proof boosting.
-
The Discharge: The processed vapor then exits back out through the 2-inch outer jacket, creating a seamless “in and out” flow through a single connection point.
Built for Performance and Durability
Every downcomer is handcrafted from premium, lead-free copper. The unit reduces to 1/2-inch copper pipe at both the top (inlet) and the side (outlet), making it compatible with most standard copper still and keg still plumbing.
Why Use a Keg as a Thumper?
Glass jars are prone to breaking under heat and pressure, and small thumpers can quickly “puke” into your condenser. By using a 5 or 7.5-gallon keg with our downcomer, you gain:
-
Increased Volume: More room for botanicals, fruit mashes, or “tails” to boost your proof.
-
Safety: Stainless steel kegs handle the pressure of a fast run far better than traditional thumpers.
-
Easy Setup: Fits any standard 2″ tri-clamp ferrule found on American Sanke kegs.
Specifications:
-
Main Body: 2″ Heavy-Duty Copper Pipe.
-
Internal Downcomer: 1″ Copper Vapor Path.
-
Connections: Reduced to 1/2″ at the top and side for easy soldering or compression fittings.
-
Compatibility: Perfectly sized for 5-gallon and 7.5-gallon (pony) kegs.
