If there’s one apple pie moonshine recipe that has followed me around for years, this is it. PhilBilly’s Famous Apple Pie Moonshine Recipe is sweet, smooth, packed with apple and cinnamon flavor, and incredibly easy to make.

I’ve shared this recipe for years, and people all over the world have made their own batches of PhilBilly’s apple pie moonshine. I’ve even heard from bootleggers who say they’ve made some serious money using this recipe.

Whether you’re making it for yourself, sharing it with friends, or just looking for a tried-and-true apple pie moonshine recipe, this is the recipe I keep coming back to.

You don’t need a bunch of complicated ingredients or equipment, either. Apple juice, apple cider, brown sugar and a handful of spices create that classic apple pie flavor. Once everything has cooled, you add the moonshine.

And if you don’t have moonshine available, you can use vodka or another clear liquor instead.

Ingredients for PhilBilly’s Apple Pie Moonshine

Here’s everything you’ll need to make a batch of PhilBilly’s Famous Apple Pie Moonshine:

  • 1 gallon apple juice
  • 1 gallon apple cider
  • 8 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 4 cups brown sugar
  • 1 gallon moonshine or clear liquor
  • 1–2 cups whipped cream vodka — optional

For the alcohol, I obviously prefer using moonshine. But if you don’t have moonshine available, 80-proof vodka will work just fine. You can also use a higher-proof clear liquor if you want a stronger finished batch.

One of my favorite additions is whipped cream vodka. It’s completely optional, but I usually add at least one cup and sometimes two. That little bit of whipped cream flavor works incredibly well with the apple, cinnamon and brown sugar.

It gives the finished apple pie moonshine an almost apple-pie-with-whipped-cream flavor that really sets this recipe apart.

How to Make Apple Pie Moonshine

Grab a large stockpot and add the apple juice, apple cider, cinnamon sticks, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and brown sugar.

Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring as needed so the brown sugar completely dissolves and all those apple pie flavors come together.

Once the mixture reaches a boil, turn off the heat.

Then comes one of the most important steps in this entire apple pie moonshine recipe:

Let the mixture cool completely before adding the moonshine.

Do not add your moonshine or vodka while the mixture is boiling hot.

Once the apple mixture has cooled completely, add one gallon of moonshine or your preferred clear liquor and stir everything together.

If you’re using the optional whipped cream vodka, add 1–2 cups at this point and give everything another good stir.

And that’s it.

You’ve just made a batch of PhilBilly’s Famous Apple Pie Moonshine.

Bottle your finished apple pie moonshine in clean, suitable containers such as mason jars, keep it properly sealed and refrigerated, and remember: this stuff can taste dangerously smooth. It may taste like apple pie, but there’s still plenty of alcohol hiding in that jar.
