5 Gallon Copper Still with Thumper and Worm
The PhilBilly Moonshine 5 Gallon Copper Still is a complete distilling setup featuring a traditional pot, thumper and worm condenser. It combines old-school copper construction with the convenience of an electric heating system, giving you a versatile setup that’s ready for a variety of distilling projects.
Whether you’re getting started or want a smaller system for experimenting with different recipes, this setup provides the major components you need in one package.
Complete Thumper and Worm Setup
This system uses the classic pot, thumper and worm configuration that has been associated with traditional American moonshining for generations.
Your kit includes:
- 5-gallon handcrafted copper boiler
- Copper thumper
- Copper worm condenser and cooling can
- 2,000-watt electric heating element
- SCR power controller
- Submersible cooling-water pump
- Cooling hoses
- Heavy-duty copper conversion cap
- Connections needed to assemble the system
Instead of purchasing the boiler, condenser, thumper and heating equipment separately, you’re getting a matched system designed to work together.
Convenient 2,000-Watt Electric Heating
The included 2,000-watt heating element gives you the convenience of running the boiler electrically. An included SCR controller allows you to adjust the power being delivered to the heating element during operation.
This gives you much more control than simply plugging an element directly into the wall and running it at full power.
The 5 Gallon Copper Still also includes a heavy-duty conversion cap. This provides additional flexibility when you want to configure the boiler for an appropriate external heat source instead of using the electric element.
Traditional Copper Thumper
The included thumper sits between the main boiler and condenser. Vapor leaving the boiler travels through the thumper before continuing toward the worm.
A thumper provides additional vapor-liquid interaction and is a traditional component found on many old-fashioned moonshine setups. Experienced distillers can also use the thumper as part of certain flavoring techniques.
Copper Worm Condenser
After leaving the thumper, vapor travels through the coiled copper worm located inside the cooling can.
Cool water surrounding the coil removes heat from the vapor as it travels through the tubing. This causes the vapor to condense back into liquid.
A submersible cooling pump and hoses are included, making it easier to set up a circulating cooling-water system without having to purchase those components separately.
Why Distillers Choose Copper
Copper has been used to build distilling equipment for centuries. It transfers heat efficiently and, importantly for spirit production, can react with certain sulfur-containing compounds created during fermentation.
Reducing these undesirable sulfur compounds can help improve the aroma and character of the finished distillate.
That’s one reason copper equipment continues to be used by professional and hobby distillers around the world.
Built by PhilBilly Moonshine
We build our equipment for people who want something more traditional than a generic stainless-steel boiler.
This setup combines the look and function of old-school moonshine equipment with conveniences such as electric heating and circulating cooling water.
Our equipment is constructed using 100% lead-free materials with an emphasis on durability and real-world use.
With the boiler, thumper, worm, electric heating system, controller, pump and hoses included, you’ll have a complete setup without having to hunt down all the major components individually.
If you’re looking for a compact distilling system with traditional copper construction, this 5 Gallon Copper Still with Thumper and Worm gives you the classic design with modern convenience.
