SCR Controllers for Electric Distilling

Take control of your electric still with a Philbilly Moonshine SCR controller for distilling. Our controllers give you adjustable power control over your heating element, allowing you to increase or decrease the amount of power going to your still throughout the run.

We build controllers for everything from smaller 120-volt setups to powerful dual-element systems. Choose from a 120V SCR controller with a 2000-watt heating element, a 240V SCR controller with a 5500-watt heating element, or a 50-amp dual SCR controller designed to operate two 5500-watt heating elements.

Each setup combines heavy-duty components with a straightforward design that’s easy to operate. Need something different? We can also build custom configurations to match many common power connections and distilling setups.

Choose the Right SCR Controller for Your Still

Not every electric still needs the same amount of power. The size of your boiler, available electrical service, heating element, and how quickly you want to heat your wash all play a role in choosing the right distilling controller.

120V SCR Controller – 2000 Watt

Our 120V SCR controller provides a practical option for smaller electric stills and locations where 240-volt power isn’t available. Pair it with our 2000-watt stainless steel heating element for a compact electric distilling setup.

This setup gives you adjustable power control without requiring a 240-volt connection. Always make sure the circuit, receptacle, wiring, and overcurrent protection meet the electrical requirements of the equipment.

240V SCR Controller – 5500 Watt

Need more heating power? Our 240V SCR controller pairs with a 5500-watt stainless steel heating element and provides substantially more heating capacity than the 120-volt system.

The controller lets you adjust the power delivered to the heating element instead of simply running the element at full output throughout the entire process. This makes the 5500-watt distilling controller a strong option for larger boilers and distillers who want greater control over their electric heat source.

Many people also search for these as 220V SCR controllers. In typical U.S. residential electrical systems, the supply is nominally 240 volts, but you’ll commonly hear both terms used when people talk about electric still controllers.

50 Amp Dual SCR Controller – Two 5500 Watt Elements

For larger electric stills, our 50-amp dual SCR controller provides independent power control for two heating elements. Pair it with two 5500-watt stainless steel elements for up to 11,000 watts of connected heating-element capacity at their rated voltage.

The dual-controller design allows you to operate and adjust the elements independently. That gives you flexibility when you need substantial power during heat-up but want to reduce the total power later in the process.

Custom Distilling Controller Configurations

Every shop and distilling setup is a little different. That’s why Philbilly Moonshine offers custom SCR controller configurations in addition to our standard models.

We can configure controllers with different cord lengths, plugs, receptacles, heating-element connections, and other options to suit compatible electrical installations. If you already have a particular receptacle or electrical setup, contact us before ordering and tell us what you’re working with.

We can also discuss larger or specialized controller configurations for customers whose needs go beyond our standard single- and dual-element systems.

Electrical work involves serious shock, fire, and equipment hazards. Controller selection and installation must match the applicable circuit, wiring, grounding, overcurrent/GFCI protection, connectors, and local electrical requirements. When necessary, use a qualified electrician.

Why Use an SCR Controller for Distilling?

An SCR controller allows you to regulate electrical power going to a resistive heating element. Instead of relying on simple full-power on/off operation, you can adjust the element’s output to suit different stages of your distilling process.

That’s particularly useful with a high-powered electric element. You may want maximum available power while bringing the boiler up to operating conditions and considerably less power once the system is running.

An SCR controller therefore controls power to the heating element. It should not be confused with a thermostat or automatic temperature controller. During distillation, the operator still needs to understand and monitor the equipment and process.

Built for Distillers Who Want Electric Heat

Electric heat eliminates an open flame at the boiler and gives you convenient, adjustable power when the system is properly designed and installed. A quality electric still controller and heating element can also make it easier to repeat your power settings from one run to another.

At Philbilly Moonshine, we offer complete controller-and-element combinations so you don’t have to piece together unrelated components and hope they work together. Whether you need a 2000-watt 120V controller, a 5500-watt 240V controller, or a dual-element distilling controller, you can choose the system that fits your equipment and available electrical service.
